Dr. Colin Benjamin OAM is the Honorary Director of ‘Life. Be in it’ – one of the longest standing health promotion charities addressing preventable chronic disease and health promotion programs. Dr. Benjamin follows in the footsteps of his father Eric Benjamin OAM, in a lifetime commitment to social work addressing the issues of poverty alleviation, self-help group formation and health promotion initiatives.
For the past 35 years, Dr. Colin Benjamin has served as director general for ‘Life. Be in it.’ International. As mentioned on the company’s website, www.lifebeinit.org, “’Life. Be in it.’ promotes healthy active life styles, leisure and recreational activities and the development of research and service initiatives that have as its primary object prevention and control of chronic diseases including asthma, cancer, heart disease, kidney conditions, stroke and mental disorders by promoting a greater level of physical activity and greater levels of social inclusion…With operations in every State and Territory ‘Life. Be in it’ has been the leading light in recreational activities that provide a direct link to building a healthier Australia.” In his position, Dr. Benjamin provides recreational activities and develops health promotion materials, which he makes readily available to the community. An authority in the area of health, he also offers advice and information on sporting and recreational opportunities. Recently, Dr. Benjamin was recognized for outstanding service to the community and was honored in the Australia Day Awards with an Order of Australia medal. He attributes his decades of success to passion for his work and a desire to aid his community. In the coming years, Dr. Benjamin intends to expand his nonprofit organization through professional collaboration and fundraising.

Dr. Benjamin is a director for the Victoria branch of the Australian Association of Social Workers, founder and chairman of the Australian Register of Counsellors & Psychotherapists, and a member of the Association of Professional Futurists. He also served in several director positions for charitable and nonprofit organizations from 1969 through 2010.
